Generation of Few Cycle Femtosecond Pulses via Supercontinuum in a Gas-Filled Hollow-Core Fiber
The interaction of intense short nanoand picosecond laser pulses with plasma leads to reach variety of important applications, including time-resolved laser induced breakdown spectroscopy LIBS (Walid Tawfik et al., 2007), soft x-ray lasers (X. F. Li et al., 1989), and laser-driven accelerators (W. P. Leemans et al., 1989). In most cases the useful output whether it be photons or accelerated par...
متن کاملPropagation dynamics of femtosecond laser pulses in hollow fiber filled with argon
We investigate the dynamics of femtosecond laser pulses propagating in a hollow waveguide filled with argon using a simulation model based on the 3D nonlinear Schrödinger equation (NLSE). The results show that if the intensity is low and no ionization takes places, the spatial profile of the beam does not change such that its propagation model may be reduced to simply a 1D model. On the other h...
متن کاملGas Sensor Based on Large Hollow-Core Photonic Bandgap Fiber
One concern in using photonic band-gap fiber (PBGF) as a gas sensor is the response time. In this type of the gas sensors, response time is the time required for gas to diffuse into the hollow-core. So considering a large hollow-core PBGF (HC-PBGF), the response time can be significantly reduced. But in the large HC-PBGF, the fundamental issue is the presence of higher order modes (HOMs). Somet...
متن کاملArc fusion splicing of hollow-core photonic bandgap fibers for gas-filled fiber cells.
The difficulty of fusion splicing hollow-core photonic bandgap fiber (PBGF) to conventional step index single mode fiber (SMF) has severely limited the implementation of PBGFs. To make PBGFs more functional we have developed a method for splicing a hollow-core PBGF to a SMF using a commercial arc splicer. A repeatable, robust, low-loss splice between the PBGF and SMF is demonstrated. By filling...
متن کاملPartially liquid-filled hollow-core photonic crystal fiber polarizer.
A compact fiber polarizer is demonstrated by the filling of selected air holes of a hollow-core photonic crystal fiber (PCF) with a liquid. The liquid-filling results in an asymmetric waveguide structure, leading to a large polarization dependent loss. A 6 mm long ethanol-filled PCF exhibits a polarization extinction ratio of ∼18 dB over a wavelength range from 1480 nm to 1600 nm.
